As a raft guide, Eddy Arway is living his dream, leading tourists safely down North Carolina’s untamed Thunder River every summer. But Eddy’s whole life is about to change, when he starts to hear the eerie, anguished voice of a long-dead Cherokee woman. Is she real or is Eddy going crazy? What does it all mean? With the help of Rainy Jackson, a gutsy--and beautiful--young trainee, Eddy tries to uncover one of the river’s oldest secrets, but will he die trying? Whitewater, legend, and love collide in Gary Alan’s action-packed debut.

Gary Alan tells a captivating story of Eddy Arway as the head raft guide in North Carolina. When a Cherokee ghost pierces through his realm in a series of fleeting omens to save the life of a young woman, our hero's journey quickly unfolds into an intricate web of many lives spanning across and interweaving multiple generations. As we are often swayed between facts and fiction, the veil masterfully dissolves into a dreamlike territory, rich with colors, scents, visions, separations and unions. In his debut novel, Alan pays homage to the long-lost tradition of walking into the spirit world through "shrooms." While he appears to relate an eloquent love story, charged with tasteful eroticism, like a true shaman, he urges us to peek beyond. The rapids and falls of Thunder River may not be for the faint of heart, but our guide knows his way around. Once you board the raft, you will not want to get off. Highly recommended.Product details

Big ThunderHearted River Gary Alan 9780989699501 Books Reviews
This is a excellent, cannot put down, well written book. I have already suggested it to two of my white water rafting friends.
generally a good book
This was an excellent, fast paced novel. it moved very quickly and I found it hard to put down particularly during the last half of the novel. I hope to read more from this author in the future. The novel was a quick read since it was only a little over 200 pages.
Not my cup of tea. The premise of the story seems ok, but I couldn't get into it so I just stopped reading
This was horrible. The gratuitous and graphic sex completely obliterated what might have been an interesting plot line. I didn't even finish the book. PLEASE note this kind of content SOMEWHERE in the description! If this were a movie, it would've been rated X.
It's not the greatest start, but then, it gets you, and wraps you in it's web. I did have trouble staying with it at first, but kept reading, glad I did.
If your a fan of Native America legends, you will Like this story.
I read the entire book hoping it would get better, it didn't ! The story was very far fetched, and just unbelievable. I really wanted to like this book as I am a white water rafter, and am part cherokee, but alas it was not to be. The story and the characters were hard to follow.
